Police say they arrested one of two suspects involved in a jewel theft in Oceanside.
Police say surveillance video shows a couple stealing a diamond bracelet worth $11,500 from Kravit Jewelers in Oceanside.
"They asked to look at some bracelets, and the bracelets are put on the counter, the male distracts the shop owner and the woman then grabs the bracelet and throws it into her pocketbook," said Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
Officials say after the theft in October, they arrested the 19-year-old male suspect this past Sunday in Lawrence.
They say his New York state driver's license names him as David Beckham Adam.
"Although this isn't the soccer player, this is a celebrity because this individual is wanted in many countries," said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
Nassau police say the suspect comes from Romania and was carrying an Irish passport.
Police tell News 12 putting out an international bulletin showing pictures of the suspects helped lead to the arrest.
"An analyst sitting at a desk in the U.K. looks at the picture and says I know these two," said Ryder.
Police say the male suspect is wanted in at least three other countries and is part of an organized crime group from Romania.
Blakeman says Adam is in ICE custody and will be deported.
Police say they are actively looking the female suspect, named Vera Rostas.
Adam is charged with grand larceny.
The owners of the jewelry store declined to talk on camera but told News 12 off camera they’re disappointed by what happened.
News 12 waiting to hear from county officials if they recovered the bracelet.
