A Bridgeport man is behind bars after being accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
Police say the incident occurred Tuesday morning as the girl walked to school.
Cordero Javier Greaves was taken into custody at his apartment and arrested Tuesday. His apartment is close to where the incident happened on Railroad Avenue, police said.
Greaves is facing several charges including first-degree sexual assault. He is being held on a $750,000 bond.
Lawmakers are condemning the incident. Sens. Eric Berthel and Stephen Harding released a statement. "A teenage student can't head out to school without worrying about getting sexually assaulted?" the senators said. "How can any Connecticut student walking any distance feel safe? This horrible story deserves answers - and action."
