Police are sharing surveillance images of they call an attempted robbery-turned-attack in a Downtown Brooklyn subway station that left a 71-year-old woman injured.
NYDP says it happened Wednesday, Jan. 1 shortly after 6 p.m. in the vicinity of the Hoyt Street subway station.
Investigators say the victim had just exited through the turnstiles when she was approached by four unidentified individuals.
Acting in concert, police say the individuals attempted to remove the victim’s bag and struck her about the body.
After being unsuccessful in their attempts, the individuals then fled the subway heading towards unknown whereabouts.
The victim suffered minor injuries. EMS took the victim to the Brooklyn Hospital Center in stable condition.
"I said, 'no, your not taking my pocketbook,' and then the first young lady, she hit me in my face. I know my my glasses flew off. I got a cut of my nose, the bridge of my nose. And she punched me in my face, And then I fell. And then she stomped on me," Linda Rosa said, adding she had grabbed the braids of two of her attackers before they had run off.
"I thank God that I was OK. They [EMS] checked out my head and my chest, because I am a cancer survivor, so I was worried they had hit my chest, and my head bounced when they hit me on the ground, but luckily, I came back OK," she said.
Rosa told News 12 she believes the group that attacked her were in their teens. She believes the group needs to come forward.
"They need...to serve the community because what did they do, what did they accomplish are they proud of this?" she said.
Residents in the area said they hope that those behind the attack can come forward. They said they are fed up with subway crime.
"I hope she is OK. It does make me hesitant and scared of people, makes me just want to stick to the wall, and I always stand near the wall because these days people have a tendency to push," said Dre, of Brooklyn.
Police ask anyone who may recognize the people in the photos to contact
