Cleanup efforts continue at the Sun and Surf Beach Club in Atlantic Beach, days after a tornado touched down in the area and left the club badly damaged.

The club will remain closed for the rest of the summer. In recent Facebook posts, the beach club thanked three local businesses for stepping up to provide free meals to the crews working to clean up the damage.

Vito Vinceslao, owner of Friendlier in Woodmere, said he wanted to help after seeing the devastation.

“A disaster happened, and I’m like, ‘Wow, let me send some pies over,’” Vinceslao said.

Vinceslao said helping the community is important to him after spending his entire life in the area.

The owners of Frank’s Trattoria in Long Beach also provided meals for the cleanup crews. They told News 12 they have a longstanding relationship with the beach club and wanted to give back.

“That’s what small businesses do,” they said, adding that a strong community benefits everyone.

Dino’s Villa Mare in Atlantic Beach, located just down the street from the beach club, is also pitching in.

“We are helping each other and do the best for each other,” owner Mike Dervovic said. “They support me, I support them. We try to keep them happy and making good food.”
