A so-called dangerous stretch of road has some people demanding increased traffic safety measures in Miller Place.
There is a stretch of road on Route 25A from Oakland Avenue to Miller Place Road that is a known drag race area.
There have been 330 accidents in the past six years in that particular stretch of street, according to the Suffolk County Police Department's Traffic Accident report.
The center turning lane located on Route 25A is reportedly so dangerous that people refer to it as the "suicide lane."
Some residents are now fed up and demanding more be done, especially in lieu of the "drift racing" meetup that happened on that same road.
Sarah Anker, a former Suffolk County legislator, says, “The incident over the weekend with cars doing donuts in one of the most dangerous intersections as an ambulance was trying to drive by it creates attention and we need to make sure the government is hearing us.”
Those who stood with former Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker are calling for action to be taken by the NYS Department of Transportation, and a traffic light to be installed.
Senator Anthony Palumbo will also be announcing his legislation to combat street takeovers, like those seen in the Town of Brookhaven this past weekend, at a news conference on Wednesday.
