Suffolk police say a man riding on a scooter was seriously injured after a vehicle struck him Sunday afternoon in Huntington Station. Detectives say it happened at 1 p.m. on New York Avenue near East 13th Street. According to detectives, Gursagar Multani, of Huntington Station, was driving a 2022 Honda Accord southbound on New York Avenue when the vehicle struck the eastbound scooter. Police identified the victim as 18-year-old Yerson Campos, also of Huntington Station. He was taken to South Shore University in Bay Shore with serious injuries. Giovanni Urquhart said he heard the crash from inside his barbershop. He said it sounded like two cars colliding. "The guy was blowing the horn and all you hear is 'boom.' We thought it was cars. But when we looked down the street, there was somebody laying in the street," he said. Surveillance video shows people in the barbershop running outside moments after the crash. Urquhart said he saw a young man lying in the street. Police say 23-year-old Multani was not injured in the crash. His vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Suffolk police ask anyone with information about the crash to call the Second Squad detectives at 631-854-8252.
