A head-on DWI crash in Melville Friday night left a man in critical condition, Suffolk police say.

At approximately 10 p.m., a man driving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma southbound on Pinelawn Road made a left turn onto Express Drive South when his vehicle was struck head-on by a 2025 Mazda CX-7.

The Toyota driver was transported to North Shore Community Hospital in critical condition.

The Mazda driver, John Ankelman, 59, was charged with driving while intoxicated, and is scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip, according to police.
