Suffolk lawmakers call on state to resurface pothole-filled Middle County Road
Suffolk County officials say potholes scattered all over Middle Country Road in Selden and Centereach are creating dangerous conditions and causing car crashes.
Following News 12’s report earlier this week on the potholes plaguing Middle Country Road, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine and Suffolk Legislator Nick Caracappa are now calling on the state Department of Transportation to resurface the road as soon as possible.
Caracappa says Middle Country Road is one of the deadliest roads in New York, and the state needs to make the road safer.
“We need to save lives, and that’s going to come with total resurfacing of Middle Country from 347 to County Road 83,” Caracappa said.
County officials are asking the state to repave the road as early as this year.
“Although the DOT has said this road would be paved in 2027, I urge them to move the date up as soon as possible. The number one rule of government is to provide a safe environment for the people. Middle Country Road needs to be addressed immediately,” Romaine said in a statement Thursday.
DOT officials could not be immediately be reached for comment.
