A very active investigation here in Massapequa Park. As the Suffolk County police commissioner confirms they are using ground penetrating technology and chopper 12 observed investigators digging through Rex Hu's property as the focus seems to have shifted to the backyard. Great question and answer out of the First Avenue Home backyard is being searched at this time. He says there was nothing that prompted the search specifically. We're just doing total investigation around the house to see if there's anything that we need to take a closer look at. Not much has been revealed about the inside of the home. What we do know is that in the basement there was a walk in vault sealed by an iron door where Rex Heman stored about 200 guns. According to the commissioner a bunch of years ago, I've seen a bunch of guys carrying this incredibly heavy object in there. And I said, wow, that's heavy wrecks. And he said he told me it was an iron door for the basement. Neighbors walking near the home on Monday have a lot of questions about Herman and the three murders he is accused of committing. I want to know what happened? You know what I mean? Is there dead bodies in this guy's backyard? This is where I have no idea. It's amazing how something like that can go on for so long and nobody really having any clue. Several sources have confirmed the news that investigators believe one or more of the suspected murders may have happened at Huber's home. The police commissioner would not comment on that but did say they will continue investigating even long after law enforcement leaves the Massapequa Park property. We'll keep the task force together. We'll keep it intact and we'll see if there's any other victims on Ocean Parkway or anywhere else. Long Island. The commissioner tells us the search here at Rex. He's home is expected to wrap within the next few days and it has been very difficult for some of the neighbors who live nearby as all of the blocks surrounding the Heman home have been blocked off. Gilgo investigation at the alleged killer's home took a major turn. This weekend, investigative reporter Rachel Leon Curtis joins us live with more and police are being very meticulous out there. They are Joe, they have to make sure they get every piece of evidence that they need from the alleged killer's property. That's why they brought in additional units and more technology day 11 of investigators searching inside and now outside of the home of suspected Gilgo Beach killer, Rex Heman from cadaver dogs to ground penetrating radar to digging up Rex Herman's backyard. Authorities are literally leaving no stone unturned. I mean, they only get one chance, right. Once they wrap up the investigation at the house, that's it. Exactly. Once they collect those evidence, they can't close that that scene and then go back as evidence might be destroyed. Police investigated Herman for more than a year before his arrest. Now their investigation is ramping up. News 12 was the first to tell you that the investigation moved from collecting evidence from inside his home to searching for clues in his backyard. Kind of like detective archaeologists, right? Uh They had cadaver dog so maybe they're looking for possible human remains and they don't want to disturb it or destroy it. So they use the G pr to identify where the the this evidence may be. That's why the radar equipment was used before the digging. It could search for metal, it could search for solid objects. I mean, it could be skeletal remains, you know, it can detect all that. So it's pretty good technology to help the police investigation will continue long after police wrap up here. He is a prime suspect in the death of 1/4 Gilgo Beach victim. Police are also looking into possible connections between him and other unsolved cases around the country. As you can imagine. There's, they're probably getting a lot of requests right now for uh you know, DNA evidence to be compared. So what normally could probably take a week might take several weeks now because they have to entertain all these potential other uh cold cases that are, that might be related to Commissioner Rodney Harrison says the search of the home may wrap up this week, but they are going to continue to gather as much evidence as possible to build their case.
