There are fake parking violation notices circulating through text, email and QR codes, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney warns.
Tierney said not to pay anyone who is demanding immediate action or using threats to receive a payment.
Residents are urged to only use verified and official websites and not to click any links from unsolicited messages.
Tierney says anyone uneasy about a message should stop and check in with a trusted contact before inputting any banking information or making a payment.
