Clouds will increase tonight ahead of a frontal system. Snow is expected to begin for New Jersey's northernmost counties between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. This will have major impacts on everyone's morning commute.
The day will kickstart with light to moderate snow and by midday, mix with rain. Along the coast, expect the snow to completely transition to rain as we reach temperatures above freezing. Overall, expect snow totals ranging from 2 to 3 inches across the state. Forecast totals across northern counties like Sussex could reach up to 4 inches with some ice accumulation, as well.
Around early afternoon, rain and snow should come to an end, but winds are expected to pick up. It will be a brisk Tuesday evening.
As we look ahead to the rest of the week, there are more chances of some active weather, as several more systems quickly pass the northeast region. There is a slight chance of snow and rain on Christmas Day.
