A potentially severe storm is heading to New Jersey.
Wednesday's storm is producing wicked weather through Mississippi and the Tennessee Valley. Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued, and that energy is heading in our direction.
Winds will be picking up. The wind direction is favorable for a big-time warm-up. Increasing clouds will cap how warm things get, but it will still be well above average for early March.
Storms will spark after 2 p.m. tomorrow. The best possible time for inconvenient weather will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., just in time for the evening commute. Wind-driven rains will be most common, but thunder and lightning can't be ruled out.
Up to 1 inch of water could collect, quickly leaving behind some large puddles that will need to be navigated around. Gusty winds could also cause the power to flicker and maybe some dead branches or older trees to be toppled. The situation will need to be watched very carefully.
The weather will have passed after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, and the pressure gradient will have tightened up again. Winds will continue to be gusty but from a different direction. The different wind directions will help usher in cooler weather for the end of the week into the weekend.
