A large coastal storm will develop this weekend and bring gusty downpours to Western Connecticut on Sunday and Monday. For the most part, it'll be a nuisance rain and washout outdoor plans on Sunday afternoon through Monday, but there is the potential for damage if the storm grows large enough. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Watch for Fairfield County. Coastal Flooding is expected in usual vulnerable spots on Sunday evening and on Monday during high tide. The tide will be 1-2 feet higher than usual, and waves could approach 4 feet on the sound.
Storm Summary:
Timing: Sunday and Monday.
Rain: 1-2 inches of rain is expected. Given drought conditions, the risk for flooding from the rain will mostly be reduced to roadways.
Wind: 20-30 mph. Gusts may reach 40 mph for our coastal neighborhoods.
Coastal Flooding: The threat for coastal flooding exists because of the easterly flow of wind. High tide will be 1-2 feet higher than usual with the biggest impacts in coastal Fairfield County.
