Thursday will be a wet, windy and overall messy day to deal with. Nuisance street flooding and coastal flooding are likely. The rain will come in waves, starting with breezy showers for the morning commute and ending with moderate to heavy rain later in the day.
Rainfall totals will range from 1-2 inches. The evening commute could be hit harder, and street flooding is possible.
Watch the wet leaves, they could become slippery and could also clog storm drains.
Rain will lighten and become more broken after 8-9 p.m.
Winds will continue to pick up out of the northeast and turn more easterly for Thursday afternoon. Sustained winds will range from 15-25 mph with gusts of 30-45 mph.
Be prepared for some localized power outages. This will end up being a prolonged period of very wind weather. The gusty winds will stick around for Friday and Saturday, even after the rain clears.
COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY: Thursday 4-8 p.m. for minor flooding during the evening high tide cycle.
Inundation of up to 1 foot of water above ground level. Most vulnerable areas along the waterfront will be impacted.
TROPICS: Hurricane Melissa is now a strong Category 1 hurricane with winds of 90 mph with higher gusts. It is accelerating over the Bahamas, bringing heavy rain and storm surge. The storm will continue to move even faster toward the northeast and closer to Bermuda tomorrow. Some of the tropical moisture will get pulled northward and could intertwine with the storm impacting our local area creating heavy rain.
