A sharp cut off of snowfall totals will skunk parts of northern New Jersey, leaving little to no accumulation north of I-78.
There is a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect for Ocean, Monmouth, and Mercer counties (in addition to the other alerts in South Jersey) for snow tonight into tomorrow morning.
FORECAST:
It's a cold day across New Jersey with highs reaching the mid-30s under a mostly cloudy sky. This comes ahead of snow arriving tonight from south to north. It reaches the southern areas of Ocean County by 6 p.m. and pushes northward into Monmouth County by 8 p.m. It reaches communities along I-78 near 9/10 p.m. and continues to reach northeastern areas by midnight.
The storm has a very sharp cut off on the northern edge, which will prevent significant snowfall in most of northern and central New Jersey. A trace to an inch of snow is likely across the I-78 stretch and parts of southern Bergen/Hudson counties. Snowfall amounts are much higher across Monmouth county with 1-3 inches of snow across the county with higher amounts south of I-195.
Mercer County will also risk seeing 1-3 inches of snow by Wednesday morning. Ocean County will be hardest hit with plowable snow. The worst of the snow will be along Rt-72 from Stafford Township into Burlington County where up to 6 inches of snow is possible. Atlantic County can possibly see between 6-9 inches of snow.
The storm will wrap up fully by 4 a.m. in all communities in New Jersey and Wednesday will remain cloudy.
Delays are anticipated in southern Monmouth, all of Mercer, and all of Ocean counties.
The sky remains cloudy throughout Wednesday with temperatures pushing into the upper 30s for the afternoon.
The next storm rolls in by 9/10 p.m. on Wednesday as a brief wintry mix in the central areas of the state, but it changes to rain.
Northern areas will experience snow to a mix then it struggles to change to rain overnight toward the end of the storm. This leaves for an additional 1-2 inches of snow in northern areas changing to ice, where sleet accumulates up to 0.1 inch. This icy glaze can impact the Thursday morning commute in northern New Jersey, so it is imperative to use caution for traveling on Thursday, especially in Warren, Sussex, northern Passaic, and Morris counties.
Weather conditions improve for Thursday and we get a break on Friday, too. Friday's weather is mostly sunny but windy.
The next round of active weather will be on Saturday with rain overnight into Sunday.
