The News 12 Storm Watch Team is tracking the chance for accumulating snow this weekend. This is likely going to be our first shovelable snowfall, leading to slippery roads for early Sunday commuters. Stay with News 12 throughout the week and weekend for the latest updates!
But first, we have to talk about the bitter cold and the wind. The cold that is around now will help in the development and sticking power of this weekend's likely snow event.
So, without further ado - the cold.
It's here. Gusty winds have been drawing in this colder Canadian airmass to the state, but also making it feel like the low 20s all day long. The bitter chill will linger tonight and tomorrow. The end of the work and school week is a bright but bitterly cold day.
The daily high tomorrow will only reach the low 30s - and the wind, again, will make it feel 10 to 15 degrees colder. Dress for the elements tomorrow. The wind will make it feel extremely uncomfortable if you are not properly dressed in layers.
Now let's talk about that snow.
You're paying attention now, aren't you?
The storm in question is just coming ashore in the Pacific Northwest. It is expected to ride along the jet stream winds and move fairly quickly. The actual track of the storm is going to be significant.
Why? Because the position of the storm is going to determine which neighborhoods will see a compelling snowfall and which neighborhoods get something far less.
Right now - and it's still early - but I think the storm zips just to our south. This will allow for a decent swath of moisture to fall in a very cold pocket of air, ensuring a mostly snowy outcome.
It is still too early for an accurate snow prediction. The snow map attached is our first look at what we think might happen based on the weather variables at our disposal. This will change, so please stay with News 12 and the Storm Watch Team of meteorologists as we cover this first round of likely measurable snow for the state.
