Umbrellas will be handy through midnight as some of the showers will be on the steady to moderate side. Up to a half inch of steady rainfall this evening is very beneficial to halting the drought and improving drought conditions, which are currently still under "severe" levels. The sun returns just in time for Thursday morning's commute but watch out for any lingering puddles or standing water.
Expect a brief break in the action Thursday with sunny conditions through the morning and a few clouds into the afternoon. It will be a bit breezy with occasional 20 mph gusts that will make it feel colder than the last few days. This colder wind is a sign of things to come just in time for the next storm that arrives Friday.
While the brunt of the coastal storm will miss the borough and stay offshore, a narrow band of rain changing over to snow is possible beginning Friday afternoon and lasting through Saturday morning. Depending on the strength of the precipitation and storm's location, the first measurable snow of the season is possible early Saturday morning.
On-and-off light rain showers are currently expected for the Friday evening commute, changing to snow around midnight with light-to-moderate snow showers lasting through Saturday morning. Travel conditions are expected to be impacted, especially north and west of the borough if any family is travelling by car in that direction.
Snow or not, behind Friday night's storm will be the coldest air in nearly two years by Sunday. Saturday will be very cold with feels-like temperatures in the 20s, but lows on Sunday and Monday morning will feel like single digits. A forecast low of 16 degrees Monday morning would be the coldest temperature since Feb. 4, 2023, when it was just 3 degrees.
