FORECAST:
The weather will gradually go downhill over the weekend with rain, wind and even coastal flooding.
A coastal storm is starting to develop off of the southeast coast tonight. It will gradually head northward and then strengthen. We are in for a prolonged period of northeast winds, rain and even some coastal flooding.
The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood watch Sunday into Monday for the possibility of minor to moderate flooding on the Sound. The timing on this has been pushed back to Sunday 12 p.m. - Monday 8 p.m.
There will be widespread pockets of steady/heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals will range from 1-3 inches.
Winds will pick up and come out of the east 10-15 mph for Saturday. Gusts can go as high as 30 mph by Saturday night. Sunday and Monday potentially can see winds gust up to 40-45 mph along the shoreline. Inland areas will see gusts of 30-35 mph. Due to the persistence and direction, there may be minor damage that can lead to sporadic power outages.
Please note that there is still uncertainty regarding how quickly this storm will strengthen and the exact track. Changes in both of these may also change how severe the local impacts will be.
