Storm Watch: Coastal erosion, flooding as Hurricane Erin passes to the southeast of NJ

Tropical storm force gusts could cause the power to flicker. Rising tides will make some roads impassable.

Tidal flooding can spill into the streets late tonight and on Friday.
There is a COASTAL FLOOD WARNING in effect through tomorrow evening due to high tide flooding associated with the offshore Hurricane.
There is a RIP CURRENT STATEMENT for the high risk of rip currents.
There is an OFFSHORE TROPICAL STORM WARNING in effect for strong wind in offshore waters at tropical storm force in excess of 34 mph.
FORECAST:
Cloudy conditions with showers are expected through today. These showers are going to be light and will taper as the day progresses. The clouds begin to clear through this afternoon and evening with better weather on the horizon for tonight and tomorrow.
However, coastal areas will still be battered with rough surf and erosion. Flooding takes place during the high tide cycles for Thursday p.m., Friday a.m., and Friday p.m. The beaches will be eroded this weekend where sand displacement is an issue.
Swimming may not be safe in many places through this weekend either.
Temperatures will begin to rebound tomorrow, back into the 80s after a few days of comfortable conditions.
The sun will be bright and beautiful through the weekend.
