Sunday’s storm left a path of damage across New Jersey.
Power outages were a reality for
tens of thousands of JCP&L and PSE&G customers. The National Weather Service reported wind gusts above 60 mph in several counties.
In Raritan Township, those winds left street signs shaking and sent flags whipping in Woodbridge.
In Rahway, a fallen tree brought down power lines with it.
In Belmar, one came crashing down onto a porch. No one was injured.
It was a powerful end to a winter weather weekend which
began with snow and sleet, but finished more like a springtime storm.
Despite the state’s ongoing drought conditions, the onslaught prompted a flood warning from the National Weather Service across Hunterdon County earlier in the night.
One thing that these conditions could add to is the ongoing reports of
salty-tasting tap water in Rahway.
The city says salt levels have been elevated for days from road salt runoff near the Garden State Parkway.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection says that water is safe to drink.
