ALERTS: There is a winter weather advisory in effect through 4 p.m. for northwestern New Jersey counties as light snow accumulates across the area, creating slick travel.
FORECAST:
1-3 inches of light snow will accumulate on surfaces in the north and west, creating some slippery conditions.
Most of the snow in central and southern areas will be melting and wet, leaving little accumulation except a trace on some colder surfaces.
Conditions will improve by 2 p.m. with the snow/rain mix ending across the state. The wind will pick up tonight, reaching up to 40 mph with gusts continuing through Wednesday.
The wind may delay travel at the airports on Wednesday. But the wind will begin to calm by the evening and clear up through the night.
There will be a rogue sprinkle or flurry on Christmas Day, but it will otherwise be fine but cold.
There is a possibility for snow the day after Christmas in the evening that could impact travel again, packing more of a punch as it could bring more than just a light snow event. We'll be watching.
