Crews continue to make progress on the brush fire at the Steep Rock Preserve in Washington Dept.
Current efforts are focused on the east and southeast flanks, where a back burn is underway to widen the control line. On the west side, the fire did not expand overnight, and a sprinkler system is in place at the ridge top for added protection.
The wildfire is now estimated at 23 acres following burn back operations, and the perimeter has been secured. Washington Fire Department is supplying water from the ridge for dispersal.
Fire and town officials say the entire Steep Rock Preserve is closed to visitors through at least the weekend.
