The New York State Thruway Authority filed a lawsuit against the four companies that built the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.
The case against Tappan Zee Contractors, LLC is being taken to the State Supreme Court.
The suit alleges cable connectors to the bridge's main structure are not up to standards.
Independent experts have confirmed the bridge is safe, according to NYSTA.
A spokesperson for the authority says it has begun the process of retrofitting these components under the guidance of leading experts.
The lawsuit was filed to recover the costs of evaluation and remediation of these components.
The suit also alleges TZC breached a contract with NYSTA in numerous respects.
TZC is made up of four member entities: Fluor Enterprises, Inc., American Bridge Company, Granite Construction Northeast, Inc., and Traylor Bros.
