A New York State Police sergeant is facing assault charges following a domestic violence incident in Orange County that authorities say left his former intimate partner seriously injured.
Crawford police say they were notified Saturday, Oct. 24, of a physical domestic dispute at a home on Bullville Road. Authorities say the victim received treatment at the hospital for serious injuries allegedly sustained during the assault.
Police arrested Sgt. Steven P. Calderon on Sunday, Oct. 25, and charged him with second- and third-degree assault.
Calderon was arraigned in Orange County Centralized Arraignment Court and released on his own recognizance without bail. An order of protection was also issued for the victim.
New York State Police spokesperson Beau Duffy confirmed to News 12 that Calderon is assigned to the Middletown barracks and was immediately suspended without pay following his arrest.
“Integrity is a core value of the New York State Police and our members are held to a high standard,” Duffy said. “Allegations of misconduct are investigated thoroughly and those who violate State Police regulations or the law are held accountable for their actions.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
