And today we have new audio into the newsroom of the transmission between the pilot of the plane and the control tower at Westchester County Airport. Moments before the crash, take a listen. More on that. Let's check in with Karina Bila cat. Yeah, Lisa, before we get to that, I want to be able to take another listen to those chilling words from Friedman right before the plane crash. And I want you to listen closely and just listen to how calm he sounded. Uh New York, uh, November 298, Papa Mike. We're gonna divert to uh uh to Westchester. We're losing our engine. Papa Mike, you can make a right turn direct. Westchester. I spoke with aviation expert Sal Lagoa earlier this morning and he says staying calm is standard protocol for emergency situations like this. Pilots are taught to try to think the problem out and focus on the problem itself. So that doesn't allow for any type of yelling, screaming or just getting nervous. You really want to concentrate on what you're doing. Lago added pilots are taught to not let anybody else participate in an accident. So that's most likely the reason why Friedman was able to land in the median of the highway. Now, as investigators head back to the scene today, Ligon says a full report detailing what exactly happened can take up to two years to come out. That's because they want to make sure they can get everything right. They want to get it right. And they have to get it right. Because if there's something inherently bad with the airplane or with the pilot training or whatever caused it, they've got to correct that for the next time. We can't have airplanes falling out of the sky and we don't, and the primary reason we don't is they do such a good job and we correct problems as, as they come up as we wait for that full report to come out within the next two years, Lago does say that we can expect a preliminary report to come out within a month or so. And joining us right now to talk a little bit more about the crash and what's expected to happen over the coming days and weeks is aviation expert Sal Ligon. Thank you for being with us once again today's timeline in terms of the investigation. How's that looking? Sal Well, today the the NTSP will arrive, they have a go team that, that specially trained for this type of thing. Uh They will secure the aircraft, put it in a hangar so that it is secure and then they'll start going over the aircraft from, from front to back, try to find everything that could have gone wrong on the on the plane. Their goal is to find out what the probable cause of the accident was and make sure it doesn't happen to somebody else. Are there specific things within the plane that they'll be looking to take possession of? Yeah, absolutely. The engine, first of all, because there is a report that there were so many engine trouble uh prior to the crash. And so one of the things they're going to do is take that engine, try to see if it, if it runs, try to see why it doesn't, if it doesn't. Um, and look and see if there's any physical damage that they can, uh, ascertain from just the, the inspection of it. If they need to, they can then ship that off to their Washington DC offices where they have laboratories that will go over that plane as well. And in doing so, come up with, uh, what they call a probable cause, but it almost always is very, very, uh, accurate and how long before we know what went wrong here. Well, you'll get a preliminary report in a few months, more than likely. And I, I know that, you know, everybody wants instant answers now, but it just does take time. You have a, you have a mangled of, uh, air aircraft sitting out there. They have to take a look at that very, very carefully. Um, and then a full report usually takes about a year or so. So I know, you know, when it comes to pilots, it's overall a tight knit community. Uh, you all look at something like this. Uh, how, how is this for you guys this morning as you, as you grieve, the loss of one of your own here. Yeah, we do and, and it's, you know, and anytime this happens and thank good goodness, it, it happens so infrequently. Um, I mean, it's very, very safe out there. It's safe primarily because we do these kind of investigations and inspections after every accident. Um, but I think he, you gotta give the pilot a bit of credit here. Whoever was controlling the airplane at the time. They didn't come down on, on 684 they came down on the media, not 684. Um, and that was to no doubt, avoid cars. We're taught right from the beginning. Don't involve somebody else in your accident.
