The NYPD says a person died after being shot by an officer in Canarsie on Tuesday night.
They say officers saw a suspicious Porsche with suspicious plates on the Belt Parkway just after 8 p.m.
Officials say the officers did a license plate check on the vehicle and the plates were determined to be stolen.
It was later discovered that the vehicle was stolen out of Pennsylvania.
Police say when officers attempted to pull the vehicle over on Cropsey Avenue, the vehicle exited and then got back on the Belt Parkway eastbound.
Police radioed ahead to adjoining precincts that the stolen vehicle was headed in their direction.
Several exits away from Cropsey Avenue, at Exit 13, officers tried to intercept the vehicle, when the Porsche sped onto the service road in the direction of several officers, who set up a road block to stop the vehicle.
Police say the Porsche came into close proximity to the officers, almost striking them.
An officer discharged one bullet and struck the driver of the vehicle.
The vehicle went one more exit to Pennsylvania Avenue, where it struck another police department vehicle.
The passenger in the vehicle was apprehended, as officers performed lifesaving measures on the driver.
The driver was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Police sources say one person is in custody.
