After weeks without rain and multiple nearby wildfires, Rockaway got snow.
“We were all worried there's been all the wildfires going on, and then out of nowhere we got dunked on with rain, and then now we have the snow right after it," said Andrew, neighbor.
In Rockaway, residents told News 12 they were happy to wake up to the snow fall.
        “I’m actually excited,” said Linda.
“Well, I could see right in back of me there’s a streetlight, and I could see the snow, and I said oh good,” said Chris Kelly.
The snow is sticking on the ground, trees and homes for a winter wonderland effect.
“It didn’t really feel like fall until this cold weather kicked in, so I was really happy to wake up and see this snow fall," said Linda.
For some, it’s the perfect time to be outside.
“It feels pretty awesome, got my nephew in from out of town, the first day he wakes up and there’s snow, we got some snowfall, we’re out here playing,” said Andrew.
After a warm and dry fall, it’s a welcome sight heading into the holidays.
“For me, it always makes it feel like the holiday season, even though it’s not my favorite. I prefer the warm weather. When it’s holiday time and it’s snowing outside, nothing is better than that," said Linda.
The weather didn’t have too much of an impact on the roads but was noticeable to drivers.
“I was surprised we didn’t get any type of delays, but I know a little further west schools were closed. But it was pretty slippery out there this morning,” said Linda.
For the rest of the day, one family will enjoy it while it lasts.
“If this continues, we’ll have a good time, just keeping him happy,” said Andrew.
There’s a mix of excitement for future snow here, but everyone was happy to see it today.
