Small Business Saturday is here – and in Pleasantville, neighbors are embracing the chance to support the stores that keep their community running.
Created by the U.S. Senate in 2011 during the aftermath of the Great Recession, the day encourages shoppers to “shop small” and uplift the mom-and-pop businesses that anchor local economies.
All across Westchester, residents started their morning at local cafés, boutiques and specialty shops. Many say the day is about more than just shopping.
Bill Wright, of Pleasantville, told News 12 that it’s the sense of connection that keeps him coming back downtown every day for his morning coffee.
“There’s a real community that comes from that,” he said. “It’s a great group.”
Small Business Saturday has grown into a major economic driver nationwide. Nearly half of America’s workforce is employed by small businesses, and experts say every dollar spent locally recirculates through the neighborhood—supporting jobs, services, and community programs.
