Hundreds of community members are expected to gather at the Lindenhurst Village gazebo to honor 23-year-old Edeedson Cine, who police say was stabbed to death inside a CVS on Christmas Day.
Suffolk police say Cine was working behind the front desk at the CVS at East Montauk Highway and Wellwood Avenue when he was randomly attacked. His brother told News 12 that Cine was not scheduled to work that night and was filling in for a friend.
Police arrested John Pilaccio, 43, of Lindenhurst, who they say lunged at Cine with a knife during an attempted robbery.
Shoppers returning to the CVS after the attack told News 12 the store feels different following the deadly incident.
“It’s a sad, sad situation,” said Fernande JN Louis of Lindenhurst. “I’m very sorry for the parents, especially his mother. It’s very tragic.”
Cine’s family is also expected to attend the vigil. They have previously described him as a hardworking young man whose life was cut short.
