Six Flags is facing increased scrutiny over its safety practices following a deadly roller coaster accident in Georgia that prompted the closure of similar rides, including Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson.
A recent CNN investigation highlights a history of ride malfunctions and maintenance concerns across Six Flags properties nationwide.
According to CNN, the company has been accused in hundreds of incidents involving dangerous ride malfunctions that allegedly resulted in serious injuries, including dislocated joints, concussions and other rider injuries.
The investigation also found safety records documenting several maintenance-related issues over the past five years. Reported problems included faulty restraint bars, guest injuries and even a train derailment. The alleged issues have prompted lawsuits accusing the company of failing to maintain its parks, CNN said.
Locally, Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson is scheduled to reopen Thursday evening for its annual Fright Fest event. However, the park’s popular Nitro roller coaster will remain closed.
In a statement, Six Flags said it is committed to meeting industry safety standards and maintaining safe experiences for its guests.
