A large sinkhole on the southbound side of the Saw Mill River Parkway has caused closures on the busy roadway while crews work to repair the problem.
The southbound side of the parkway is closed at Lawrence Street in Dobbs Ferry.
Drivers will be diverted there onto Route 9A to travel south down to Tompkins Avenue to get back onto the parkway.
Route 9A is only 2 lanes and as the morning rush begins there will likely be major backups on the southbound Saw Mill as well as Route 9A.
One lane of northbound traffic was closed while the work is being done at Farragut Avenue but reopened shortly before 7:30 a.m.
Officials hope to have the southbound side open in time for the evening rush hour.
