Video obtained by News 12 shows a 20-year-old woman walking in a crosswalk on East 14th Street in Sheepshead Bay when a car turning off Shore Parkway hits her.

Police say it happened just after 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. They say she was taken to the hospital with elbow and knee injuries.

Residents like John Barberi say he's surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

“I’m surprised it took that long. People cut the light all the time because it's dark over here. They figure nobody's going to see them," said Barberi.

Barberi thinks adjustments could improve safety.

“They could put those cameras like they have every place else," said Barberi.

Madelen Nash says reckless drivers will always find a way.

“Brooklyn has the worst drivers. With all the drivers shooting down here, you have to be careful," said Nash.

Police say the driver was issued a summons for failure to yield.
