A sheriff spokesperson says an inmate suffered a 'self-inflicted incident' in jail, and sources say it's the man accused of killing his ex-wife and her boyfriend in St. James.
In response to a question about Daniel Coppola attempting to commit suicide, a spokesperson for the Suffolk County sheriff told News 12 that, "We can confirm that yesterday an inmate was injured during a self-inflicted incident. Correction Officers responded quickly and appropriately to get him the medical treatment he needed. He was transported to a local hospital. The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office is unable to comment further on any incarcerated individual's medical conditions or status."
At Coppola’s arraignment, a judge placed him on suicide watch.
