Self-appointed community activist found guilty of threatening Bridgeport police officers
The Bridgeport Superior Court jury found self-appointed community activist, Joseph Thompson, otherwise known as "Joe Grits," guilty of threatening Bridgeport police officers last year.
The case against Thompson resulted from social media posts made of him following the officer-involved shooting of Dyshan Best on Kossuth Street on March 31, 2025.
In the posts, Thompson stated "Somebody gotta die somebody should die with a badge on."
The shooting of Dyshan Best was found to be justified by the Connecticut inspector general.
Thompson was arrested on April 7, 2025 and charged with inciting injury and threatening.
Thompson defended himself at 1 1/2 daylong trial, and the jury found him guilty quickly after.
Thompson's bond was increased to $100,000.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 27, 2026.
