A second man has been arrested in connection to the assault and robbery of an off-duty NYPD officer.
Wayne Lucas, 23, was taken into custody in Virginia, NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed on Wednesday.
The arrest came on the same day that Officer Chowdhury Nafees, a 27-year-old Bronx resident, was discharged from Jacobi Hospital surrounded by officers from the 45th Precinct.
The officer was on his way home from his shift early Saturday morning when he was attacked by two masked men on Saint Peters Avenue in Westchester Square.
Surveillance video showed the two men push the officer to the ground and brutally beat him. Investigators say they put a knife to his throat and robbed him of his wallet, cellphone and service gun.
Taveon Hargrove, 23, was arrested Tuesday in Virginia in connection to the attack. Investigators believe he escaped to a family friend's home.
Hargrove's father, 55-year-old Jeffery Hargrove, was also arrested for allegedly using the officer's credit cards after the attack.
Nafees moved to the United States from Bangladesh with his family five years ago. He began as a 911 operator before he joined the force roughly 11 months ago, according to the Bangladeshi American Police Association.
