Chaos in Seaside Heights left multiple people stabbed and over 70 people arrested over Memorial Day weekend, leading some beachgoers to be wary of visiting the town this upcoming weekend.
Seaside Heights officials reported they saw over 100,000 visitors for the holiday. Throughout the weekend, officers arrested 73 people for rowdy behavior - 52 adults and 21 juveniles. Three people were stabbed, according to police.
Seaside Heights officials told News 12 they were prepared before the holiday with local police, state police, the FBI, and help from neighboring towns' law enforcement departments if needed.
They also put in place a curfew for people under 18, but that didn't stop the action.
On the boardwalk Friday, beachgoers spoke to News 12 about their concerns for the upcoming weekend.
"Now that they're prepared for the extra chaos going on, they'll put more restrictions on the boardwalk," said one beachgoer. "This is a family-oriented area so I really hope it stays that way."
Another woman said, "Families are coming here with children and it's only here for three months, so you want to come here and be safe."
So far, no rules or restrictions have changed going into this weekend.
Beachgoers told News 12 they aren't worried about the rest of the summer — and do want the boardwalk to remain open as much as possible.
