Seaside Heights leaders say they are preparing for a safe and controlled Memorial Day weekend after chaotic scenes left a mark on the town during last year’s unofficial start to summer.
Last year’s Memorial Day weekend included about 100 arrests, several stabbings and crowds of kids and young adults whom officials described as out of control. After that first weekend, town leaders said the rest of the summer returned to business as usual.
Mayor Tony Vaz said officials want to make sure the same problems do not happen again in 2026.
More details about the town’s plans are expected to be announced ahead of the holiday weekend.
