Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who disappeared in the waters off Robert Moses State Park on Saturday afternoon. The New York State Police and New York State Park Police say the unidentified man was last seen in the ocean near Field 3 at Robert Moses State Park around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 26. Investigators said the man, described as a white male wearing dark-colored shorts, was observed in the water before disappearing from view. Officials say he was not seen exiting the ocean. His identity remains unknown, and authorities are urging anyone who may recognize the individual or have information about his whereabouts to come forward. Police are specifically asking anyone with a family member, friend or acquaintance who may have been at Robert Moses State Park Saturday afternoon and has not been heard from to contact investigators. Anyone with information is asked to call the New York State Police at 631-756-3300 or the New York State Park Police at 631-321-3700. Officials also reminded the public that swimming is currently prohibited and urged beachgoers to exercise extreme caution due to storm conditions. Park officials said search efforts will resume Sunday.
