The search for a missing man, running for a seat on the Nassau County Legislature, is now in its
fifth day.
Nassau County police said Petros Krommidas, 29, was last seen in Baldwin around 9 p.m. last Wednesday, April 23. He was officially reported missing the following night.
Krommidas is running as a Democrat for the legislature's 4th District, a seat that is currently held by Republican Patrick Mullaney. That district includes parts of Oceanside, Island Park and Long Beach; the latter is where police say he may be.
Police described Krommidas as 6 feet 2 inches, 230 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. According to officials, he was last seen wearing a camouflage print sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.
Krommidas last posted publicly on his
campaign Facebook page that he spoke in Garden City on Monday, April 21, at a Nassau Young Democrats event.
"Thank you to the Nassau County Young Democrats for having me—always great to be with such a thoughtful, engaged group committed to making a difference in our community," Krommidas wrote on April 22.
New York state and Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs released a statement on Sunday.
"We are heartbroken over the disappearance of Petros Krommidas. Petros is a bright, driven young man who has been a strong voice for Democratic values. He is well respected by the community and represents the very best of our next generation of leaders. We are keeping Petros and his family in our prayers and remain hopeful for his safe return."
News 12 reached out to Krommidas' family, but they told us they were unavailable to comment at the time.
