Save the Sound released its 2024 Long Island Sound Report Card on Thursday.
The main open waterways scored a “B” or better, while the report found 42% of the 57 bays and harbors tested got scores of "C," "D" or "F."
David Ansel, with Save the Sound, says wastewater pollution, storm water pollution and climate change are the major challenges for the waterways.
Officials say more infrastructure and green initiatives are needed and even small steps like not using chemicals on people’s lawns makes a big difference.
