School on Saturday? It could be on the table in Paterson if more snow strikes.
The last day of school in Paterson is now Friday, June 26, four days later than the original date.
If the district needs to use another snow day, Mayor Andre Sayegh says options to make the day up include shortening spring break or scheduling classes on a Saturday.
Paterson Public Schools told News12 the district has not planned or approved Saturday classes, and if any changes were necessary, they'll be reviewed at the time and communicated by the district.
Remote learning is not necessarily an option. State law counts remote learning toward the required 180 school days only if a district is forced to close for three or more consecutive days.
The president of the nearby Newark Teachers Union, John Abeigon, also asked the governor to reconsider the law.
“Waiting three days during a state of emergency to switch to virtual learning significantly harms educational continuity,” Abeigon wrote.
States like New York count remote days.
