A traffic alert this afternoon after a crash shuts down a busy highway in Middlesex County. News Twelve's Lauren De in East Brunswick with details. Some lanes on Route 18 are finally starting to reopen this afternoon as crews continue to make repairs on both the north and southbound lanes on Route 18 through East Brunswick after police say a crash took down wires and a pole. I heard there was an accident, so whoever it was, I do hope they're OK. Of course crews racing to repair utility poles and secure wires. Brunswick police sending out a traffic alert around 11:15 last night saying Route 18 was closed in both directions between Rouge Lane and Main Street. This morning, snapped poles, wires across both highway lanes, and debris on the road, leaving nearby businesses without power, traffic for miles north, south, and on back roads. Slowing down the morning commute and those heading to the gym. Instead of a 15 minute drive, it was like a 40 minute drive, which is ridiculous, crazy, just cars just waiting. Painful, painful, not, not, not something to wake up on. Others able to get around, but as work continued, they weren't so sure it'll be that easy getting out. Maybe I got a lucky break for once in my life. I don't know, but it was good, no problem. You come to the gym, you work out, relieve some stress. Maybe I'll hit it on the way home. Hopefully not. The NJDOT says work should be completed by tonight in East Brunswick, Lauren De, News 12, New Jersey.
