A stretch of Route 1 in Woodbridge was closed Friday morning after a severe two‑car crash.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. near Gill Lane on a normally busy section of the roadway. Crews at the scene said the wreckage was so extensive that vehicles were torn in half, and it was difficult to determine what type of cars were involved. Airbags were deployed across the debris field.
There is still no word on injuries or fatalities as the investigation continues. Woodbridge Township has not released official information.
First responders remained on scene through the morning. Route 1 south was closed at Green Street but has since reopened.
The Attorney General's office says its Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating the crash but it has no further information at this time.
