Fifty years after its founding, a popular East End fair won't be going on as planned this year.
The Riverhead Country Fair has been canceled for the second straight year.
The fair committee broke the news on Facebook on Tuesday, saying this year's event is on hold until downtown construction is complete.
“This decision was not made lightly. The safety and well-being of our community remain our top priority,” the committee said.
As News 12 reported, Riverhead town officials broke ground on its town square project in December.
Work on the $32.6 million project is expected to be completed by early 2028.
Last year's fair, scheduled in October, was canceled because of bad weather conditions.
