Residents in Riverdale say the intersection at West 261st Street and Delafield Avenue is putting pedestrians at risk.
People tell News 12 that drivers often speed through the area without stopping, despite the presence of a pedestrian crossing sign.
Business owners and residents say they’ve seen several accidents and close calls at the site, and are fearful when crossing the street.
NYC Open Data shows at least one crash at multiple intersections along West 261st Street in the past year.
Residents are calling for added stop signs, lights and speed bumps to improve safety. Sources from The Department of Transportation say they’re conducting a traffic study to assess potential changes.
