A Boy Scout Troop in Wilton honored veterans Saturday through the Wreaths Across America program.
After scout leaders and town officials spoke at the memorial in the town's center, the scouts from Troop 125 furbished gravesites at Hillside Cemetery with 200 wreaths that were acquired through fundraising efforts.
Scout Master Adrian Biltoft says it's important for the scouts to recognize and respect the sacrifice veterans, locally and throughout the country, have made.
"Events such as this, laying wreaths on veterans memorials, gives our youth an opportunity to understand that the sacrifices made by our veterans…It's not such an abstract idea," he says.
Biltoft says the tradition has been taking place for at least five years.
There are nearly 500 veterans buried at Hillside including multiple Revolutionary War heroes along with veterans who have recently passed away.
