Flood mitigation work is underway in East Irvington after residents spent years raising concerns about recurring flooding during heavy rainstorms.

According to Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, the town has begun making improvements following complaints from residents and a recent News 12 story on the issue.

Residents who live on and around Taxter Road say severe storms continue to threaten homes and properties. While storm-drain improvements were made several years ago, some residents say the work did not fully address the flooding problem.

According to Feiner, the latest project includes installing new drainage pipes, and crews have already begun clearing trees as work gets underway. Feiner acknowledged the improvements will not eliminate flooding entirely but said they are expected to help reduce its impact.

Reaction from residents has been mixed.

"It's certainly overdue. It's certainly something that's critical. It's a shame it took so long to get here, but we're here," said Jason Cohen.

"There's really nothing specific about it. So you know, me as a homeowner here, I just have questions about it," said Gregory Maugeri.

Town officials expect the drainage work to take about two weeks. Sidewalks are also being added along Taxter Road. Feiner said he plans to meet with residents Wednesday to hear their concerns and discuss the project.
