"When I tell them, 'Hey, there's no hot water. There's a fire..'They will never call back. Ever. You know? It's not fair. I got two small children under 18. It's freezing," said resident Loretta Durham, who has lived in the apartment for around years.
Yonkers Fire officials say they were called to the small rubbish fire Monday evening but also noticed heavy amounts of water flowing from the building. There were many pipes broken and frozen according to officials. "We have frozen pipes and the reason why you saw open ceilings or something is because they were diagnosing...had to fix some pipes already. They're finishing up with another steam leak that they have and after that, everything will be repaired," said building manager and owner, Mark Schik. Schik says heat and hot water was restored, but residents said on Thursday night that that is not the case.
