A reported larceny in Port Chester ended with the suspect crashing into a snowbank.
"I think that's actually really crazy because I didn't think something like that would be happening here," says Meleena Ortiz, who works nearby.
It happened Thursday afternoon.
Port Chester police received a call reporting a larceny in progress from Stop & Shop.
Officers tried to stop the driver, but they say she accelerated at a high speed.
She didn’t make it far before her car got wedged between other cars stopped in traffic at North Main Street and Westchester Avenue.
But then, police say she took off again, hitting other cars on the way.
Police did not engage the driver in a pursuit due to the risk that was created.
An officer ended up locating the car on Boston Post Road and attempted to stop it.
The driver refused to stop, according to police.
Officers say she attempted to make a U-turn and crashed into a snowbank.
A 50-year-old woman from the Bronx was arrested.
She faces several charges including aggravated vehicle assault for injuring motorists while she was operating under the influence of narcotics, according to officers.
Two people were hurt in the ordeal. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police say numerous cars, including a Port Chester police vehicle, were damaged.
“It’s a little bit crazy, its unfortunate," says Jiovanni Vaquiz, who works in Port Chester.
