Report warns more than 5,000 Atlantic City casino jobs could disappear over next decade
Thousands of Atlantic City casino jobs could be at risk over the next decade, according to a new report.
The Atlantic County Economic Alliance says competition from online gambling and the arrival of new casinos in New York City could threaten more than 5,000 casino jobs during the next 10 years.
The report warns that fewer casino jobs could have effects beyond the gaming industry.
Atlantic City casinos contribute to a state fund that helps pay for property tax relief programs and prescription drug assistance.
Supporters of the report say a decline in casino revenue and employment could affect funding for those programs in the future.
Officials have not said whether any immediate job cuts are expected.
